Reports indicate that a Kumasi-bound Ford collided head-on with an O&A bus en-route to Wa around 2:00am.
Several others who suffered severe injuries were transported to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital for medical care.
The
Municipal Chief Executive of Wenchi, Alhaji Habib Dauda, who confirmed
the details of the accident to Citi News, noted that the Ford bus caught
fire after the collision and all the passengers in the bus died in the
fire.
Pictures made available to Citi News showed the bodies burnt beyond recognition.
“We
have invited a pathologist and he has come to inspect [the bodies] and
he has given us the go ahead to bury them immediately,” Alhaji Dauda
stated adding that plans were in place to bury the bodies.
He however failed to explain whether or not the bodies had been identified.
According
to him, “the Police are here, the Fire Service is also here. Everybody
who also matters is also here and Nananom are also here. We are digging
the graves and in 30 minutes time we will bury them.”
Driver sleeping behind the wheel
Initial
Police investigations have revealed that the driver of the Yutong bus
fell asleep behind the wheel leading to the accident.
“It came
to light that the driver of the Yutong bus was sleeping and there was
nothing the Ford driver could do but collide with the Yutong bus,”
Alhaji Dauda stated.
